‘Winchester Night’ planned at Legends Field

Winchester has hit a home run with the Lexington Legends. 

On Saturday, July 11, the pro­fes­sion­al base­ball team will cel­e­brate its neigh­bor to the east with a Winchester night at Legends Field in Lexington. 

The fran­chise will try to cov­er all the bases with spe­cial tick­et deals for local groups, pub­lic­i­ty for Winchester busi­ness­es, recog­ni­tion of this year’s boys and girls state bas­ket­ball cham­pi­onships, and maybe, a pre-game per­for­mance by the George Rogers Clark High School band. 

WinCity Sports Cards will have a pop-up shop at the game. 

“We are going to have a Winchester takeover of Legends Field,” said Scotty Brown dur­ing a recent cham­ber of com­merce breakfast. 

“We’ve got some great tick­et pack­ages that also have some ven­dor dis­plays because what we want to do is turn Legends Field into a branch of down­town Winchester on that night,” Brown said. “It’s going to be a blast!” 

Mike Allison, vice pres­i­dent of base­ball expe­ri­ences for the Legends, said the team has been doing appre­ci­a­tion nights for Bluegrass com­mu­ni­ties that have been a big part of the team’s loy­al fan base over the years. They’ve already had a Paris-Bourbon County night and have one planned for Richmond and Madison County in July. 

He said that about 10 or 11 per­cent of the atten­dance at Legends games comes from Winchester and Clark County. 

“I want to make sure every­body knows that we’re so appre­cia­tive,” he said. 

Allison was in Winchester recent­ly and plans to return soon to bring free tick­ets to local police offi­cers and fire­fight­ers to thank them for their service. 

The Legends will offer spe­cial deals for Winchester and Clark County busi­ness­es. For exam­ple, the All-Star pack­age usu­al­ly costs about $250 plus tax for 20 tickets. 

“We’re doing a twen­ty-tick­et pack­age for a hun­dred dol­lars,” he said. 

And the MVP pack­age usu­al­ly gets a group a table for $500, not includ­ing the price of the tick­ets. But on July 11, they’ll offer 50 tick­ets as well and put the Winchester business’s logo up on the video board. 

“I’ve had a lot of peo­ple reach out about the All Star, because if you only had 10 or 12 peo­ple, it’s still a bet­ter deal than going online and buy­ing tick­ets, plus you get a lit­tle shout-out in the process,” Allison said. 

The Winchester-Clark County Chamber of Commerce has already pur­chased 100 tick­ets, accord­ing to Executive Director Cindy Banks.

“It’s a 7 o’clock Saturday night game with post-game fire­works, so we’ll have a big crowd,” Allison remarked. The gates open at 6 p.m. 

The vis­it­ing team will be the York Revolution from York, Pennsylvania. 

“It’s going to be a good night to come and cel­e­brate home­town away from home,” Allison said. 

Baseball & Boom 

Another big event com­ing up at Legends Field is Baseball & Boom on July 3 to cel­e­brate the country’s 250^th birth­day, the night before Independence Day. 

Grandstand tick­ets are only $10, and the postgame fire­works show is expect­ed to be the biggest in the region before the holiday. 

The Legends, play­ing as their alter ego, the Bourbon Barrels, will host the Fort Campbell All Stars, with the first pitch at 7. 

Hip hop artist Timothy “ibeli3ve” Lamont will per­form the National Anthem.
