There’s So Much to Do in Winchester

Estimated time to read:

I’ve been a lifelong resident of Winchester, except for my time in college and a summer abroad. One thing people have always said is, “There is nothing to do in Winchester.” I used to agree with that statement before I moved back to town, especially as a child, since there was no roller rink, shopping opportunities were limited, and our bowling alley closed when I was in high school.

My current perspective as an adult is very different. While we still don’t have a roller rink or a bowling alley, there is still so much to do. So much, in fact, that our family has to miss some events to attend others.

For families with children, this weekend alone has Open Gym at Thoroughbred Gymnastics, Kids’ Day at the Clark County Farmers’ Market, Community Rock Painting at Legacy Grove, and more.

“If we want cool businesses to survive in Winchester, we must be supportive of them.”

For families and individuals with diverse interests, some organizations and businesses frequently host events. Some of my favorites are Abettor Brewery, The Crystal Coven, Amy’s Asian Kitchen, Legacy Grove, The Clark County Farmer’s Market, Winchester Clark County Parks and Rec, The Fly Witches, Harkness Edwards Vineyard, Clark County Public Library, Created by You Ceramic Studio, community events by the Chamber of Commerce, like Rock the Block, and more. The long-awaited splash pad is also opening soon, and I can’t wait to take my kids there after years of wondering when it would be available.

For those who love to thrift for treasures or shop secondhand, grab yourself a coffee from The Daily Grind or a Skittles Tea from The Happy Corner and stroll through Mason on Main, CC’s Closet, Twice Blessed, The Peddler’s Mall, Eklektic Alchemy, or Birdie’s Attic, coming soon to downtown Winchester. I’m so excited to grab some breakfast at Lucky Dog and take long walks with my friends in Birdie’s attic soon!

There are a few other not-so-hidden gems in Winchester that need our support to stick around. Joe Brett’s Ice Cream has become a family favorite when we want a sweet treat. Loma’s is my favorite date night spot with my husband. Did you know we even have a baseball card store for sports lovers? How about the petting zoo and animal encounters at Avalon Farm?

I know there are even more activities and businesses in this town than what I’ve listed in my article. So, I encourage you to explore our town yourself and spend your hard-earned dollars here before taking the trip to a surrounding county. If we want cool businesses to survive in Winchester, we must be supportive of them. For those who say we have nothing to do in town, I encourage you to check out the various events and activities happening around town and then let me know if your opinion has changed.
