Perspective matters, but so does action

It’s easy to ooh and ahh at winter’s beauty from inside a warm, dry house. If only everyone had that luxury. They don’t, of course, which is why looking out for one another is a perennially good idea.

With the latest storm melting away we’re obviously relieved, but bitter cold is on the horizon — and it’s only mid-January. Winters can seem never-ending around here, and this one has already worn out its welcome in the eyes of many Clark Countians.

Since we’re all in this together, let’s not forget to act like it: please . . . check in on each other, offer a helping hand, take time to notice suffering and, whenever possible, alleviate it. Life is hard enough when the weather is good; winter can make it unbearable, especially for the most vulnerable among us, human and non-human.

It only takes a moment to warm a cold heart, an action that could very well save a life.

And speaking of life savers, let’s continue to appreciate and support the many helpers who work tirelessly in every season to keep us safe and sound, including, but not limited to: Clark County Homeless Coalition, The Beacon of Hope, Recovery Community Center, Clark County Animal Shelter, our fire and law enforcement departments, road and utility crews, and of course, those who deliver our mail and packages, take care of us when we’re sick, and keep the shelves stocked when there’s a run on bread and milk.

Simple acts of kindness, no matter what your perspective, are always beautiful.
