Beside the window I watch the blue sky,
thinking of high wind warnings and storms.
The usual cars zoom past, as always too fast;
clouds rush up to the porch and
fly
away
over my left shoulder.

My screen goes black. I am concentrating so hard
on the words on the screen that
I yank up my fingers for fear of them getting zapped.
Silence floods in to fill the gaps.
The wind continues to roar.
A neighbor’s Trump flag is on the street,
Scudding past in a cloud of dust and trash.
A truck runs it over.

It lies, stunned, on the pavement,
until another gust of wind

gives it life, and off it goes.
What to do now, since there is no electricity to power various distractions?
There’s nothing to eat, since I can’t cook . . .
Oh, no, the crock pot was running!
Looks like we go out to dinner!
