In the fadÂing dark of a new day
I arise from my well-bed
To stand on totÂterÂing legs
Three times oldÂer than I ever expectÂed
Them (and me) to be.
Walking into the bulb-lightÂed
Hallway I stumÂble over a box & curse
My prosÂperÂiÂty-induced pain
That goes away almost instantÂly
Leaving behind a crotchÂety me.
In the bathÂroom I weigh myself—
262—two pounds above my
Hernia surgery-eliÂgiÂble weight:
No breakÂfast: A walk instead.
Another joy-filled day, no doubt, ahead.
