Clark County Constable David Puckett recently said he will run again in a different district after losing his seat due to redistricting.

Puckett, 67, who is serving his second term as 4th District constable, isn’t eligible to run for re-election in that district because his residence is no longer in the 4th. When the Clark County Fiscal Court redistricted the county in 2023, as it was required to do after the 2020 census, the lines shifted so that Puckett’s home became part of the 5th District.
Puckett, a Republican, said he will file as a write-in candidate for the 5th District closer to the August 11 deadline. Unless another candidate also files as a write-in, Puckett will be unopposed, as the other constable candidates are on the ballot.
Constable Jerry Edwards, who had represented the 5th District for several years, died last November, creating the vacancy in the district.
Jerry Tackett has filed as a write-in candidate for the 4th District.
Puckett filed on January 5 for the 4th District as a Republican, but withdrew soon afterward after learning that his residence was no longer in the district.
Three other Republicans are also running unopposed: Travis Jay McIntosh for District 2, Shelby Lynn Toler II for District 3, and William Frank Kennon for District 6.
Kennon’s district had previously been represented by Constable Doug Rose, who is now a reserve deputy sheriff for the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
District 1 remains vacant. It was represented by Doug Woodall until his death in December 2023.
Constables are peace officers who are elected by magisterial district but serve countywide. Their duties vary by state law depending on their law enforcement training and certification.
