Aldi may open in early November
Work is proÂgressÂing on conÂstrucÂtion of the Aldi superÂmarÂket in Winchester Plaza, just off I‑64 Exit 94. Employment appliÂcaÂtions are now being accepted.
Over the weekÂend, a job appliÂcant told WinCity Voices that a repÂreÂsenÂtaÂtive of Aldi said the tarÂget date for openÂing the new store was earÂly November.
Aldi is a disÂcount groÂcery store that has been increasÂing its footÂprint in Central Kentucky. The Winchester store is locatÂed in the space most recentÂly occuÂpied by Bargain Hunt, which went out of busiÂness last year.

Site work begins on Publix location
On Tuesday mornÂing, it was apparÂent that work had begun at the site of Winchester’s newest shopÂping cenÂter, to be known as Winchester Village. The cenÂter will be anchored by a Publix superÂmarÂket. Other tenÂants have not yet been announced.
The site is at the Southeast corÂner of the interÂsecÂtion of Bypass Rd. and Colby Rd. in Winchester. The site was preÂviÂousÂly home to a walkÂing trail.
Dozers and backÂhoes could be seen Tuesday bringÂing down trees. There has been much disÂcusÂsion on social media about the removal of trees. In parÂticÂuÂlar, there is one tree that some locals believe to be among the oldÂest in the area, and they have asked whether the tree could be preserved.
WinCity Voices is not aware of any conÂtact between local preserÂvaÂtionÂists and the develÂopÂers, but time would seem to be of the essence at this point.
No openÂing date for the Winchester Publix has been announced.
