Aldi may open in early November

Work is progressing on construction of the Aldi supermarket in Winchester Plaza, just off I‑64 Exit 94. Employment applications are now being accepted.

Over the weekend, a job applicant told WinCity Voices that a representative of Aldi said the target date for opening the new store was early November.

Aldi is a discount grocery store that has been increasing its footprint in Central Kentucky. The Winchester store is located in the space most recently occupied by Bargain Hunt, which went out of business last year.

Work was progressing Tuesday, Sep. 8 on construction of the new Aldi supermarket, reportedly set to open in early November.

Site work begins on Publix location

On Tuesday morning, it was apparent that work had begun at the site of Winchester’s newest shopping center, to be known as Winchester Village. The center will be anchored by a Publix supermarket. Other tenants have not yet been announced.

The site is at the Southeast corner of the intersection of Bypass Rd. and Colby Rd. in Winchester. The site was previously home to a walking trail.

Dozers and backhoes could be seen Tuesday bringing down trees. There has been much discussion on social media about the removal of trees. In particular, there is one tree that some locals believe to be among the oldest in the area, and they have asked whether the tree could be preserved.

WinCity Voices is not aware of any contact between local preservationists and the developers, but time would seem to be of the essence at this point.

No opening date for the Winchester Publix has been announced.
