A number of years ago, I roamed an area of Clark to document images for a photo book I wanted to produce for myself. I called it The Vanishing Rural Landscape of Clark County, Kentucky.

At one time, and perhaps in some locales today, the scene above epitomized the classic example of what a farm in Clark County, Kentucky, may have looked like. But the image is quickly fading, as the following photos show. What you see in these photos is not necessarily the norm for Clark County, but they do illustrate a trend and conditions with which today’s farmers must cope.

While these photographs may evoke nostalgic regret, perhaps they will also show some of the beauty that exists even in structures that are deteriorating. (Click on any image to open the gallery and view all images full size.)
