Saturday, March 28, will introduce something new to Winchester: a ‘No Kings’ rally on the courthouse square downtown. In the latest episode of the Voices of Winchester Podcast, host Pete Koutoulas talked with Winchester attorney Adam Johnson about the event.
Adam emphasizes that the No Kings Rally is not mainly a political event; it’s a call for restoring checks and balances in government and a reminder that every voice counts in a democracy. He explained that this gathering focuses on structure and norms rather than supporting any specific political ideology.
“We all get to vote on this. There’s not one person who gets to decide how things go,” he explains. The rally is meant to create a space where community members can come together to discuss their values and hopes for the future, regardless of their political beliefs.
Ahead of the rally, some concerns came up about its timing clashing with another local event, McEldowney Madness. Adam assures that there is no hostility between the two events, saying that both can benefit from each other’s presence. He thinks the overlap offers more people a chance to participate in community activities, supporting the idea that different ways of expressing community spirit can coexist.

Adam’s philosophy on grassroots organizing emphasizes the importance of collective ownership. He believes that when individuals feel a sense of ownership over an event, it fosters genuine passion and engagement. However, he also acknowledges that this can sometimes lead to varied interpretations of the core message, but he encourages open dialogue to ensure that everyone feels included.
