Harrison campaigns again with common‑sense message

Longtime candidate focuses on housing, growth, and opportunities for Winchester families

Ralph Harrison is run­ning for a seat on the Winchester Board of Commissioners to bring com­mon sense to city gov­ern­ment, he says.

This isn’t his first cam­paign. In the past, he has run sev­er­al times for may­or and city com­mis­sion­er, most recent­ly in 2024, when he fin­ished sev­enth in a sev­en-can­di­date race with 1,290 votes.

Harrison said in a can­di­date sur­vey that he has run for pub­lic office for the past 16 years.

“I can help the com­mu­ni­ty with com­mon sense,” he said.

Harrison said he is “inter­est­ed in work­ing to make things bet­ter for the com­mu­ni­ty” in sev­er­al ways, includ­ing sup­port­ing afford­able hous­ing, extend­ing the city lim­its so that Winchester can have more new fac­to­ries, and pro­vid­ing more things for chil­dren to do.

Harrison, 73, has been mar­ried to Cassie Harrison since 1972. His chil­dren are Ralph Harrison Jr., Rondal Harrison, and Lurlia Harrison. He also has sev­er­al grand­chil­dren and great-grandchildren.

Harrison, orig­i­nal­ly from Estill County, attend­ed Estill County High School and George Rogers Clark High School, accord­ing to his Facebook page.

He earned a GED and had two years of HVAC class­es and on-the-job training.

Harrison has been self-employed for most of his life as a mechan­ic and has worked for ser­vice sta­tions and wreck­er services.
