Since opening in January of this year, the Book Nook on Main has seen a steady flow of business in the community. Run and owned by Bree Bowman, the store sells a hand-picked selection of books, ranging from children’s books to romance novels. With the entire store being decorated like the corner of a fairy forest, the buying experience is best described as magical. With plans to expand in the near future, many things are anticipated to change in the store in the coming months.
Located above High Speed Collectibles, Bowman started the business with her husband, James Bowman, who owns High Speed Collectibles. The business was his idea after he noticed how passionate she was about books and reading. Together, the couple worked to create a welcoming, cozy atmosphere for all ages. To create many of their interior decorations, employees at her husband’s shop even came in to work during the last hours before opening. All of their hard work paid off in the end, with the entire store becoming a space where one can finally relax in a safe place.
With this being the first time Bree Bowman has run a business, she stated, “It was certainly difficult in the beginning. I’ve been a stay-at-home mom for many years, so stress wasn’t exactly new to me, but there’s much more involved in running a bookstore than I first thought. It’s a whole lot easier now that I know what’s going on!” From ordering books, keeping up with stock, and finding the best place to get her product, the journey from idea to a full bookstore has not been easy.
Despite this, Bowman regrets nothing and is eternally thankful for all the community has done to help her. From kind words to helping hands, she has never had issues with starting her business. Her husband and brother even helped her build a secret room in the store, housing many special, exclusive books.
Nearly every month, the Book Nook hosts a different author for book signings, with a large signing event scheduled for July 25th. The event will host 12 authors and multiple book-themed vendors, such as coffee and cake-pop vendors. Taking place at Whiskey and Wiles, Bowman is still reaching out to additional interested vendors and authors to attend the event.
