Arts on Main: ‘Uniquely Kentucky’

Arts on Main, the retail store for the Winchester Art Guild, will reopen after its annual winter hiatus next Wednesday, March 5, 2025. It seemed like a good time to visit the store again with my buddy Ken Howard, President of the guild, and tour the store as it nears completion.

Each year, Ken and the volunteers who staff the store reset many of the displays that occupy the several rooms within the store at 31 North Main St. in downtown Winchester. This time is no exception; the displays are stunning. I decided to shoot a short video as Ken walked me through each room, pointing out some of the beautiful arts and crafts—all created by local artisans.

The guild has about 50 members, and around half of them are represented by products in the store.

As Ken likes to say, the store offers items that are “uniquely Kentucky.” There is everything from paintings to macramé, from pottery to woodworking products, and so much more.

As an aside, Ken and I discussed how the block along North Main, where the store is located, is quickly becoming Winchester’s unofficial arts district. Besides Arts on Main, the historic Leeds Center for the Arts is right next door. Across the street, you can find Dirty South Pottery and Frames on Main. Not to mention a couple of boutiques, restaurants, and more.

Be sure to stop by Arts on Main next Wednesday or after and bring home a unique piece of local pride.
