National Pollinator Week was last week. Its purÂpose is to bring attenÂtion to the imporÂtance of polÂliÂnaÂtors and to encourÂage their proÂtecÂtion. But realÂly, any week is a good week to appreÂciÂate our pollinators.
Butterflies are some of my favorite polÂliÂnaÂtors. This zebra swalÂlowÂtail had just landÂed and was extendÂing its proÂboscis to drink some necÂtar. Butterflies are so beauÂtiÂful and delÂiÂcate lookÂing, they are litÂerÂalÂly flyÂing art pieces. With their amazÂing metaÂmorÂphoÂsis and the joy they bring us watchÂing them fly, it is underÂstandÂable that in culÂtures all around the world butÂterÂflies repÂreÂsent rebirth and hope.
We have sevÂerÂal zebra swalÂlowÂtails flitÂting around our place right now. Their only host plant is the pawÂpaw and the ones we’re seeÂing most likeÂly spent the caterÂpilÂlar stage of their life in our pawÂpaw patch.
