- Down on Main Street: Court Street Gifts
Step inside Court Street Gifts this season, and you’ll instantly feel the charm of spring. The shop is filled with soft pastels—lavender, pink, yellow, and aqua—and even smells like springtime. Located in the heart of downtown Winchester, this beloved local business has called Court Street home for nearly 23 years.
Founded by Anne Baldwin and Betty Jane Glascock and partners, Court Street Gifts has become a go-to destination for unique and personalized gifts. From wedding registries to homeware and baby gifts, the shop offers something special for every occasion. Engraving, monogramming, gift wrapping, and even local delivery to showers and weddings are all part of their personalized service.
“We’ve had as many as 25 couples registered here at one time,” says Anne. “Everything we have here, we want to be unique and unusual.”
Despite challenges over the years—including the COVID-19 pandemic—Court Street Gifts has remained committed to its loyal customer base. “We’ve never really been an online business,” Anne shares. “We’re a person-to-person business. We’ll run gifts out curbside or even drop them off if you’re nearby.”
In addition to their wide range of holiday, birthday, and hostess gifts, the shop hosts creative classes throughout the year. A Christmas oyster shell ornament painting class was such a hit, they had to hold it twice! Most recently, they partnered with Haggard’s Flower House to host a spring bulb planting class, bringing fresh blooms to homes across town.
As for their downtown location, Anne and Betty Jane never looked back. “We thought it would be fun,” Anne recalls. “We had a chance to go to the bypass, and we chose not to.” Betty Jane adds, “The biggest thing is that people need is to come downtown and see what we have. We get people in who say, ‘What a cute store!’—and they’ve never been in before, even though they live in Winchester!”
