Paschal Baute: “A Short, Scary Story that Kids will Love”

Ten local sto­ry­tellers par­tic­i­pat­ed in the sec­ond annu­al “The Voices of Winchester: A Night of Storytelling” event was held on October 6, 2023 at the Leeds Center for the Arts in down­town Winchester.

Paschal Baute, 94, has had an amaz­ing jour­ney in life. In his youth, he was a box­er and long-dis­tance run­ner who served in the mil­i­tary for 24 years in mul­ti­ple branch­es. He answered God’s call by serv­ing as a Benedictine monk for 16 years. After decid­ing to leave the monastery, he mar­ried and spent 40 years as a pas­toral psy­chol­o­gist. He and his wife Jannette have three chil­dren, three grand­chil­dren, and one great-grand­child. He is a long­time mem­ber of the Lexington Storytellers. Today, he is blind but stays active and has writ­ten 24 books. He helps oth­er blind vet­er­ans over­come chal­lenges, and swims laps three days a week.
