Tuesday, June 10, was an auspicious day for WinCity Voices and our sponsoring nonprofit agency, WinCity Media. That’s the day we moved into our new office in Suite 300 of the Historic McEldowney building at 5 Cleveland Street in downtown Winchester. The building, completed around 1909, is a five-story structure described as “Winchester’s first skyscraper” upon its opening and was deemed “fireproof.” (The building it replaced had burned down after being in service for only a year.)

Having a physical office will help us in many ways. It legitimizes both organizations, which helps with fundraising and grant seeking. It provides us with a space to meet, host podcasts, and increase our public visibility. And it will be helpful to me to separate my work life from my home life, something my wife appreciates!

I love the beautifully restored original hardwood floor and solid wood doors. DAM Holdings has done a marvelous job preserving this historical gem. Our new office boasts ample natural light and a stunning view of the courthouse square and Main Street. We have a front-row seat to the high-side renovation project as it takes shape!

I plan to be in the office most Tuesdays and Thursdays from approximately 10 AM to 4 PM. Please stop by and say “hello” when you’re downtown. I’d especially love to meet some of our readers and supporters whom I’ve never met.

The McEldowney building and its namesake, M.T. McEldowney, have been the subject of articles by WinCity Voices contributors. In August 2023, Harry Enoch chronicled the life and buildings of M.T. McEldowney. July 2023, Randy Patrick wrote about the restoration of the McEldowney Building by local development company DAM holdings.
