Lovers of music and myths, swordplay and song, the heroic and the heartfelt, will all rejoice this spring when The Lightning Thief: the Percy Jackson Musical sneaks into Leeds Center for the Arts and makes off with rounds and rounds of thunderous applause.

Directed by Vivian Snipes, former Artistic Director of Lexington Children’s Theatre (and director of the 2023 Leeds hit Little Women: The Musical), takes the helm of this electrifying show, based on Rick Riordan’s popular Percy Jackson book series for young adults–which has also been adapted into a film and television series. Leeds mainstay Steve Crosby serves as Musical Director, with choreography by Ellie Miller.

“This is the perfect show for our audience,” said Leeds Executive Director Tracey Miller. It’s new, it’s energetic, and it’s got a cast of emerging talent and seasoned pros. Not to mention tons of heart.”

Drawing inspiration from Greek mythology, The Lightning Thief follows the young Percy Jackson, who has always had trouble fitting in. That all changes when he learns that he’s the son of the mighty god Poseidon and has inherited some of his father’s awesome powers. Joined by new friends and facing new foes, Percy must find Zeus’s stolen lightning bolt and prevent a war between the gods, all the while learning about courage, resilience, and the importance of family.
