This is the first Jeff Beck album I ever heard (thanks again to my older brother) and it remains my favorite Jeff Beck work. Unlike other exciting albums, I can’t remember the first time I heard it but it grows and grows on me every year. That’s a lot of growing since 1971.
In 1982 my music delivery system consisted of a turntable, amplifier, and cassette deck. For portability, I would record albums on cassette and pop them into a Sony Walkman and go. During my stint in Minnesota, I specifically remember listening to this while riding my bike around Minneapolis’ lakes and really enjoying it. This was the turning point for me and this album. That was the summer of 1983.
This album is a great combination of rock, jazz fusion, soul (with Tench’s vocals), and blues. Give it a good listen; I think you’ll agree.
