There will be one district judge’s race on the May 19 primary ballot in Clark County.

Because three candidates filed for the 1st Division of the 25th District, they will run against each other in a nonpartisan primary election, and the top two candidates will then advance to the Nov. 3 general election.

The three candidates are current District Judge Tyler S. Frazier and two challengers: Micah Johnson and Darrian D. Botts.

Tyler Frazier
District Judge Tyler Frazier will face two challengers in the May 19 primary for the 25th District, Division 1.

When the books closed with the Kentucky Secretary of State’s Office Friday, Jan. 9, Chief District Judge Earl-Ray Neal was unopposed in the 3rd District, and Judge Robert Jennings was unopposed in the 2nd.

Only two candidates filed for the Court of Appeals in Division 1 of District 5, the incumbent, Judge Will Moynahan and Fayette Circuit Court Judge Lucy Ferguson VanMeter, wife of former Kentucky Chief Justice Laurance B. VanMeter of Winchester. Therefore, they won’t be on the ballot until the fall election.

The 5th District of the Court of Appeals covers Clark, Bourbon, Fayette, Franklin, Jessamine, Madison, Scott and Woodford counties.

There are no contests on the Clark County primary ballot for circuit judge, family court judge or justice of the Supreme Court.
