This is our 2nd year parÂticÂiÂpatÂing in the GoodGiving Challenge and we couldn’t be more excited!
Clark Coalition Foundation was estabÂlished nearÂly three years ago to bring high-qualÂiÂty research and data to comÂmuÂniÂty disÂcusÂsions around land-use, and to engage local citÂiÂzens in the processÂes that impact how we grow, funcÂtion and thrive.
Our Mission & Vision
We seek to advance smart growth, susÂtainÂable ecoÂnomÂic develÂopÂment and govÂernÂment transÂparenÂcy in Winchester-Clark County. Our vision is to build a thrivÂing comÂmuÂniÂty rootÂed in the heart of our iconÂic and dynamÂic Bluegrass landscape.
What does smart growth look like in pracÂtice? It’s a reviÂtalÂized downÂtown charÂacÂterÂized by vibrant local busiÂnessÂes and accesÂsiÂble ameniÂties. It’s heathy neighÂborÂhoods with a focus on walkÂaÂbilÂiÂty and a range of housÂing opporÂtuÂniÂties for local resÂiÂdents. It’s preserÂvaÂtion of farmÂland, open space and critÂiÂcal enviÂronÂmenÂtal areas. And it’s responÂsiÂble use of taxÂpayÂer funds for long-term ecoÂnomÂic viability.
To make this a realÂiÂty, and secure a vibrant future for our chilÂdren and grandÂchilÂdren, we must make informed deciÂsions about how we grow.
Our Work
Over the past year, Clark Coalition Foundation has takÂen an active role in the Winchester-Clark County Comprehensive Plan Update. We have conÂtributed research that we have comÂmisÂsioned – includÂing studÂies on under-utiÂlized and vacant land, and cost of comÂmuÂniÂty services.
Taken togethÂer, these studÂies reveal imporÂtant details about opporÂtuÂniÂties for infill and conÂtiguÂous develÂopÂment, and the costs of sprawl. For examÂple, Clark County has over 14,000 acres of under-utiÂlized land inside our curÂrent planÂning boundÂary. Adding more land to this masÂsive invenÂtoÂry is fisÂcalÂly irreÂsponÂsiÂble, as resÂiÂdenÂtial develÂopÂment costs taxÂpayÂers more than it proÂduces in revÂenue: $1.28 spent on comÂmuÂniÂty serÂvices for every $1 genÂerÂatÂed in revenue.
We have also worked to encourÂage pubÂlic parÂticÂiÂpaÂtion in the develÂopÂment of the Comprehensive Plan. Through announceÂments in the Winchester Sun, email blasts and an extenÂsive social media camÂpaign hunÂdreds of citÂiÂzens were able to take part in this vital process. We believe that engaged citÂiÂzens are the corÂnerÂstone of strong communities.

Our Goal
Over the next 4 days of the GoodGiving Challenge, we are seekÂing to raise $20,000 to supÂport new proÂgramÂming and research in 2024.
We are so grateÂful for the supÂport of our felÂlow comÂmuÂniÂty memÂbers. Without you, Clark Coalition Foundation wouldn’t be able to proÂmote good growth, good jobs and good government.
