Arts on Main, the retail store for the Winchester Art Guild, recently reopened after a winter hiatus. I toured the store along with Ken Howard, president of the guild, on Saturday, March 9. It had been a year or two since I visited Arts on Main, and I have to say I was blown away!
My intention was to get a few photos, talk to Ken, and write a story about the store opening. But the more I looked around and the more I listened to Ken, I realized I could not do it justice with a brief article. So, I decided to dip my toes into the world of podcasting, something I’ve been wanting to do. After talking it over with Lashana Harney, we’ve decided to dust off the WinCity Voices Podcast, rebrand it, and add me as a second host.
My first guest was Ken, and after listening to him, you’ll understand why I wanted you to hear him telling you first-hand about his passion for the arts and his vision for the future. Arts on Main is conveniently located under the pretty red awning at 31 South Main Street in Winchester. The store is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM. 
The new look for the store in 2024 features what Ken Howard describes as a “3D look,” with fewer slat-wall displays and more like this vintage hutch. 
Each room is different, providing an experience that puts the arts and crafts in an appropriate context, like the wooden products here displayed on a workbench. 
The building that houses the store is over 100 years old, providing visitors with views like this charming fireplace room with lovely displays. 
Here’s another view of some of the eclectic artwork and crafts available at Arts on Main. Every item in the store is handcrafted by local artisans.
