Local historian Jerry Cecil will speak at the Bluegrass Heritage Museum’s January 13th Second Thursday Program. His topic will be Newton Powell: Winchester’s “Century” Builder.
A contractor and builder for more than 50 years, Powell left a legacy of quality buildings that have stood the test of time and retain a central role in the beauty of our community. Powell witnessed the construction of every building in downtown Winchester during his lifetime.
Some of the buildings he constructed were the First Christian Church, First Methodist Church, and St. Joseph Catholic Church, as well as The Carnegie Library at College Park and the Mt. Vernon Addition.
The program begins at 6:30 p.m. and is free to the public. Refreshments follow. The Museum is located at 217 S. Main in Winchester.
