This is a guest post written by GRC and BCTC student Rae Miller. I was fortunate enough to meet Rae at one of Brett Chevront’s workshops with youth leaders at Leed’s recently and was very much impressed with this young lady. We’re hoping she will write more for us in the coming weeks and months. —Pete
I am a dual credit student at BCTC currently working towards an Associate’s Degree in science. I am sixteen and would ultimately like to become a marine biologist. On Fridays at BCTC, my class does not have a set schedule, but every third Friday of the month, we have leadership classes with Brett Cheuvront. He takes us all around Winchester and shows us everything Winchester has to offer.
I have lived in Winchester most of my life and always found it boring and dull. I felt like there was nothing to do, especially for kids. Since our outings with Brett, though, I have learned that Winchester has much more to offer than what meets the eye. Some of my favorite places being our local library, Legacy Grove, local shops, and the Winchester museum. I enjoy these places so much that I would like to share some information with you about them.
Our local library is a wonderful place to find books, of course. But did you know they have programs for kids, tweens, and teens? Some teen programs they offer include movie nights, murder mystery dinners, art projects, and so much more. On the Winchester library page, they go into much more detail, so if you’re interested, it is definitely worth looking into.
Next is Legacy Grove. Legacy Grove is my favorite place in Winchester. It has beautiful scenery, two dog parks, a wonderful walking path, and an amazing playground. My favorite part of Legacy is the dog parks. There is a park for smaller dogs and one for larger dogs. Each park has a dog water fountain and multiple seats for people to sit on. It is a lovely place to go to and a great way to relieve stress.
There are many local shops in Winchester, most of which are located downtown. There are many boutiques as well as art and gift shops. If you want to get out and support these local shops, take a walk downtown one day, and don’t be scared to look inside, because you never know what you might find.
Last but certainly not least, another of my favorite places to go to in Winchester is the museum. There is so much rich history there, not only about Winchester but all of Kentucky. It is very educational but fascinating as well. I would love to go back soon, and I hope you will check it out too.
These are just a few of the many amazing places to visit in Winchester. If none of these suit your fancy, there are always local restaurants to try as well. If you don’t know where to start, I would suggest Bargains on Broadway.
You live in Winchester, so might as well enjoy all the things it has to offer while you’re here.
