Just in time for Halloween, here is a photograph of the “Witch of Morganton,” Joanne Denton in front of her house “Gray Shadows,” in the 1980s.

Joanne gained national notoriety in 1976 when she accurately predicted the day of a woman’s death. She was arrested and tried for witchcraft under North Carolina’s 1951 witchcraft law. Joanne was exonerated, and the law was repealed in 2004.

If you happen to be a Wiccan, you are protected by the US and Kentucky constitutions, so go any witch way you want.
